Marking the US premiere (in Czech) of composer Bohuslav Martinů’s Julietta, the Dvořák American Heritage Association, New York University and the American Symphony Orchestra present a colloquium in which leading experts will examine the many facets of Martinů’s operatic masterpiece – a work which combines edgy surrealism with extraordinary lyrical power.  Organized by musicologist Michael Beckerman, Carroll and Milton Petrie Professor of Music, New York University, with participation of Conductor Leon Botstein, Director, American Symphony Orchestra and President, Bard College; Aleš Březina, Director, Bohuslav Martinů Institute, Prague; Lydia Goehr, Professor of Philosophy, Columbia University; Hanna Arie-Gaifman, Director, Tisch Center for the Arts, 92nd Street Y; Veronique Firkušný, Translator; Alex Zucker, Translator; and Jon Meadow, Doctoral Candidate, New York University.

Special preview: Lead soprano Sara Jakubiak and tenor Aaron Blake will perform a passage from the opera Julietta.
