DVOŘÁK'S CZECH DAY CONCERT AT THE CHICAGO WORLD'S FAIR OF 1893

On the evening of Saturday, March 19, 2016, the Aaron Copland School of Music Orchestra under the direction of Maurice Peress presented a rousing concert “recreating” the Czech Day program of August 12, 1893 at the World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago.  Audience members could well imagine the fairgoers’ excitement they heard Dvořák’s popular Slavonic Dances and My Home Overture as well as his Symphony No. 6 in D major.  Maestro Peress, who recently celebrated his 85th birthday, was greeted with an orchestral Happy Birthday and received an honorary award from the Dvořák American Heritage Association at the close of the performance.
