Spring Musicale: 2018 Edition

The tradition of Sunday afternoon musicales continued on April 15th as the spirited ArtsAhimsa ensemble returned for its eighth season with chamber works and song from the world of Antonín Dvořák, his contemporaries, and students.  Organized by violinist Laura Jean Goldberg, the performance featured seasoned musicians as well as young talents from leading music conservatories.  The repertoire included:

  • Dvořák’s String Quintet in G Major, Opus 77, arranged for cello quintet performed by Laura Bossert, Rebecca Phillips, Emily Lane, Egor Antonenko and Joey Arcuri.

  • Brahms Sonata for Piano and Clarinet in E flat Major, Opus 120, No. 2 performed by MATIMA, Maiko Sasaki and Makiko Hirata

  • Vocal selections by composer/baritone Harry T. Burleigh performed by soprano Marti Newland and pianist Moshe Knoll

  • Guitar selections of Brahms and Duke Ellington performed by Tali Roth, with the impromptu addition of Joey Arcuri on double bass.

  • Vocal selections of Dvořák – a Gypsy Melody and the “Prince’s Aria” from Rusalka - performed by Gilad Paz and Anna Royzman

  • The “lento e molto cantabile” third movement of Dvořák's String Quartet No. 14 performed by students from The Juilliard School pre-college division.
